Cavity Wall Insulation

WHAT IS CAVITY WALL INSULATION?
Put simply, cavity wall insulation is the equivalent of putting an overcoat around your home. It is one of the cheapest and most effective methods of keeping your home warmer in winter and reducing your fuel bills. Most houses built after the mid-1920s have walls that consist of two brick or block work "leaves" separated by a gap - the cavity. .
To meet today's energy efficiency standards insulation is inserted into this cavity during the build. By drilling holes in the correct places and blowing in insulation we can help to insulate your home to a similar standard today, many years after it was built. And don't just assume that because your home is relatively new it already has cavity wall insulation. Houses built as late as the year 2000 may not have had cavity wall insulation installed!
Ring Keep Sheffield Warm today and arrange a simple boroscope inspection to see if your cavities are costing you money every time you turn your heating on.
HOW MUCH COULD I SAVE?
This depends on the size of your home and how you heat it, but around 1/3 of a home's heat can be lost through un-insulated cavity walls. The Energy Saving Trust ( energysavingtrust.org.uk ) state that a typical 3-bedroom semi-detached house, with gas central-heating, will save £115 worth of heat per year, every year, by having cavity wall insulation installed. And with ever increasing energy bills these savings will grow every year.
With the insulation grants that Keep Sheffield Warm currently has available, in most cases, cavity wall insulation will pay for itself in less than 2 years. And remember, with our 25-year guarantee, your insulation will go on to recoup its' costs many times over during the lifetime of the building and improve the Energy Performance Certificate rating of your home when you come to sell it..
HOW DO I KNOW IF MY HOME IS SUITABLE?
You can get a good idea by looking at the pattern of the bricks on the outside. If ALL of the bricks are laid "side-on" and your outside walls measure over 265mm (10.5"), this usually indicates a cavity construction. But the best way is to contact us.
Ring Keep Sheffield Warm on our freephone (0800 7836122) or our geographic number (0114 2666292) to arrange a free, no-obligation survey of your home and confirm the presence, or otherwise, of a suitable cavity by drilling small holes in the mortar and inserting a boroscope. We will then be able to see if the cavity is both wide enough to insulate and clear of any debris that could make it unsuitable without prior remedial work.
We will also tell you if the work has already been done without your knowledge - either when your home was built or before you moved in.
